Experience from past years showed that you can expect openings in several different directions during Sporadic-E condx. In this case an omnidirectional antenna certainly is not a disadvantage. Besides Manfred's K3 arrived just in time to give it a first try in a contesting environment. The modified windom played well on all bands - except on 15m. Later we found out that the additional wire element probably had touched the coax during a wind gust causing a short to ground. So we had to take the R7 out of the garage in the evening. The first impression of the K3 was not too bad at all. We experienced a variety of problems, though, with some of them seemingly being real bugs. The biggest problem was corrupted CW keying which we simply could not fix and which forced us to continue with our proven TS870 setup at around midnight. During the day 10 & 15m offered an almost continous stream of callers so that we did not have to milk 40m for every single QSO. Lots of fun as usual! Thanks to everybody giving out points! 73, Stefan DL1IAO for the DM1A/p FD-Team DL1IAO@contesting.com http://www.dl1iao.com
